Columbia police release results of drunk driving enforcement
The Columbia Police Department released results of its enhanced drunk driving enforcement campaign.
The campaign, which ran from May 17-19, coincided with University of Missouri commencement weekend. Columbia officers worked overtime to focus on removing intoxicated drivers from the roads.
Police set up a checkpoint on Rock Quarry Road near Capen Park and arrested seven drivers. Overall, 221 drivers were stopped at the checkpoint.
At the checkpoint, two drivers were arrested for drunk driving, one for felony drug distribution and two for possession of marijuana.
Officers also arrested five other drivers for drunk driving during the three-day campaign.
The enforcement was made possible through a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Traffic & Highway Safety Division.
