Ameren utility worker killed while restoring power after storms
An Ameren utility worker was killed Thursday morning while trying to restore power to those affected by storms in the St. Louis region Wednesday night.
According to Ameren and affiliate KTVI, the employee came into contact with a live line around 10:30 a.m.
The employee was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In a statement, the company said, “The Ameren family of employees offer heartfelt sympathy and support to the family and loved ones of our co-worker.”
Ameren says it’s not disclosing his name, and other details were not released.
About 15,000 area customers remained without power Thursday afternoon.
The death came as residents in the St. Louis area cleaned up from the storm that hit Wednesday night. Two deaths have been blamed on the storm that included tornadoes, hail, rain, ice and snow and hit much of the Midwest and parts of the southeast United States.
