Double Homicide in Morgan County
***UPDATE TUESDAY 8:20 P.M.***Morgan County Sheriff Jim Petty confirms 71-year-old Mae Wells and 82-year-old Wayne Wells were murdered in their Ivy Bend home. The Sheriff added that Wayne Well was wheelchair-bound.The bodies of the victims were removed from the home around 8 p.m. and will be transported to Jefferson City for an autopsy on Wednesday.At a press conference, the Sheriff mentioned a separate incident that deputies responded to on Tuesday. A man informed authorities his pistol had been stolen the week prior. Deputies found the man’s teenaged neighbor who had self-inflicted stab wounds. The teenager ran off, but deputies were able to catch up to him. The teenager is now in custody at a local hospital, but deputies say there is no connection yet to the murders.The Sheriff also said the door had been kicked in, indicating it was a possible forced entry robbery. However, officials say they do not know if anything was taken from the home. Authorities did confirm they found a footprint in the home.***UPDATE TUESDAY 6 P.M.***The victims’ daughters say their parents were well-known in the community, leading them to believe that the suspects knew the victims.Morgan County Sheriff Jim Petty says investigators are trying to determine the time of the murder. He says lights were still on in the home, leading them to believe it happened after sunset, but before the woman went to bed around 9 p.m.Sheriff’s officials say they have no suspect information.Anyone with information is asked to call authorities at 573-378-5481.***UPDATE TUESDAY 4:40 P.M.***According to officials, a friend of the couple visited the home around 11 a.m. Tuesday and found the elderly woman face down in a pool of blood and shot in the head. The friend called police, who then discovered the man dead in a separate part of the home. He was also shot in the head.Authorities are not releasing the name of the couple. They believe the murders could be part of a robbery attempt because there was forced entry into the house. However, officials do not know if anything was taken from the home.Law enforcement say they do not have a lot of information because it is a remote area and it is not during the peak vacation season. They say the only information they have is that a neighbor reported his dog barking around 6 p.m. Monday.***UPDATE TUESDAY 3:35 P.M.***Morgan County Sheriff Jim Petty says an elderly couple was shot and killed in their home.Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a possible robbery because officials say the house was broken into.***ORIGINAL STORY***Morgan County officials are investigating two deaths in the county as homicides.Two deaths near Ivy Bend Road and Oak Hill Road near Stover are considered homicides, according to Sgt.
