Crashes Shut Down Roadways
***UPDATE 6:07 P.M.***Several roads around Mid-Missouri were shut down for hours at a time for weather and crashes. ABC 17 News called several counties and learned many experienced the problem. But even the counties that didn’t have any confirmed crashes had several calls for slide offs.As the snow continued to fall and gathered on the roads, some drivers couldn’t keep up. Before 10 A.M. Thursday a semi crashed on Highway 63 in Randolph County. It shut down the highway for some time. Highway patrol would not talk at the scene, but did say it backed up traffic for miles.There were 10 accidents reported in Boone County. The majority of those happened between 10:30 and 11 A.M. Cooper County had 16 accidents and road crews in Randolph County saw about 23.Highway patrol couldn’t give ABC 17 News an exact number of how many accidents troopers worked, but say they’ve had about 50 to 100. There was also one person hit as they were trying to cross the street on Providence Road in Columbia.***UPDATE 12:20 P.M.***Highway 63 has reopened in Randolph County following a tractor trailer accident.MoDOT reports that Highway 65 in Saline County is closed due to winter weather from Marshall to I-70.***ORIGINAL STORY***Northbound Highway 63 has been shut down in Randolph County due to an accident.The Missouri Department of Transportation and Highway Patrol says a tractor trailer accident near Renick and the railroad overpass has traffic completely shut down.There is no estimated time of reopening the highway. Traffic is reportedly backing up.An ABC 17 News crew is headed to the scene. The etimated time of closure is four hours.
