Drunk driver hits Jefferson City police officer

A Jefferson City police officer was hit by a suspected drunk driver early Saturday morning at the intersection of Locust Street and East McCarty Street.

Now, 23-year-old Cory Ingram is in jail, charged with a slew of traffic offenses as well as leaving the scene of an accident and DWI. Investigators say Ingram’s blood alcohol level was .187, more than twice the legal limit in Missouri.

Officers responded to the accident just after 2 a.m. Saturday when a marked police car was hit in the 900 block of East McCarty. Ingram, the suspect, then drove away from the scene and, according to a news release, was picked up a few blocks away.

Both cars suffered extensive damage. The officer was taken to St. Mary’s Health Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Ingram was not hurt.
