Mayoral Candidate Drops Out
Columbia mayoral candidate Sam Allison removed his name from the race Friday afternoon, citing similarity to challenger Sid Sullivan, and concerns that he would split votes between them. “At the beginning of this month, there was a substantial fear that Columbia incumbent Mayor Bob McDavid would go unchallenged in this April’s race,” Allison said. “I have not lived here that long. But I have been here long enough to know that Columbia deserves much better than that.” Allison’s name will not appear on the April ballot, and he has endorsed Sid Sullivan in the election. “[Sullivan] has hit the ground running with a focused and aggressive campaign, and has received support from groups that truly represent the progressive nature of Columbia,” Allison said.
