Joni Mitchell to return to the stage in 2023 with Brandi Carlile

By Lisa Respers France, CNN

Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone?

That helps explain why many were so excited when Joni Mitchell gave a surprising performance in July at the Newport Folk Festival. Now, according to fellow singer Brandi Carlile, the legendary artist will once again take to the stage.

During an appearance on “The Daily Show” that aired Wednesday, Carlile announced that Mitchell is scheduled to join her at the “Echoes Through the Canyon” shows in June 2023 at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington state.

“After Newport, Joni said ‘I want to do another show.’ She said ‘I want to play again,'” Carlile told “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah.

“No one’s been able to buy a ticket to see Joni Mitchell play in 20 years,” she continued. “So this is enormous, and she’s so excited because it’s close to Canada.”

Mitchell, 78, suffered a brain aneurysm in 2015 and has mostly been out of the public eye since then.

She and Carlile are close friends, with Mitchell introducing her at the annual Grammy Awards earlier this year.
