Trailer home in Boone County severely damaged after accidental fire
Everything in the home on Ponderosa street has some damage after the accidental fire Sunday afternoon. “The family will be able to salvage some clothing potentially,” said Gale Blomenkamp, Director of the Boone County Fire Protection District. “Other than that everything is going to be a total loss, including the structure itself.”
According to Blomenkamp, the fire was started by a child living in the home that was playing with a lighter in a bedroom. An estimated $27,000 worth of damage was done to the structure and property inside.
The only fatality or injury was suffered by the family dog, which crews failed to resuscitate once they arrived on scene.
While on Ponderosa, crews tested the carbon dioxide levels in neighboring structures and replaced faulty smoke detectors.
