WINDSOR, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Windsor man allegedly shot and killed another man for stealing from him according to a Pettis County probable cause statement.

A Pettis County prosecutor has charged Mark Fielder, 64, with first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and second-degree assault.

A witness told investigators that he picked up James Fannon, 41, near the intersection of E. Jackson and South County Line Road in Windsor when he saw a vehicle follow them into Pettis County.

The witness says that Fielder got out of his truck with a gun and threatened Fannon and the driver. The driver got out of the vehicle when Fielder allegedly shot Fannon in the head, according to court documents.

Fielder then left the scene and the driver drove off with Fannon's body off before dumping the body on the side of the road.

During the investigation, investigators identified Fielder as a suspect and took him into custody. Fielder told police that his teenage son say someone was stealing from them and he Fielder went out to confront them when "it escalated from there."

Police found a gun hidden in a dryer under towels at Fielder's residence.

A hearing is scheduled for March 15.

Fielder has a bond set at $500,000 cash or surety.
