WEDNESDAY UPDATES: Boone County reports the largest coronavirus case increase since Oct. 25

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services reported 58 new COVID-19 cases from Tuesday.

There are currently 286 active cases in the county and a total of 25,850 cases since the pandemic began.

The county reported 25,390 cases removed from isolation.

Boone County ranks eighth in the state with the most coronavirus cases in total volume in the past week. Cases are up 2.1% when comparing last week to the prior week. The county has a 5.7% positive test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).

The health department's hospital status is yellow with 53 COVID-19 patients in Boone County hospitals and 19 of them being Boone County residents. Of the 53 patients, 14 are in intensive care and nine are on ventilators.

The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports that 105,339 residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 94,899 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses.

Boone County has the third-largest percentage of county residents in Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 58.4%. The largest county in the state is St. Louis County with 61.3%.

Boone County is third in the state with a reported 52.6% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses. St. Louis County is the first county in the state with 54.6% of residents having completed the doses for vaccination. The city of Joplin has 57.4% of the population fully vaccinated.

Cole County has the second-highest first vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 51.4%. Callaway County is third with 46.9%.

The Columbia Public Schools reports active coronavirus and quarantine cases to their website daily.

The district reported an 18.3 14-day rate per 10,000 for Monday.

CPS reports seven district facilities (four elementary schools, one middle school and two district-wide facilities) currently have staff out because of COVID-19. There are four staff members at elementary schools and two staff members at district-wide facilities. The district has two staff members at elementary schools and two staff members at district-wide facilities currently quarantined because of COVID.

The district reports 29 district facilities to have students currently out due to the coronavirus. There are 20 out of 21 elementary, six middle schools, two high schools and one district-wide facility is affected.

There are 27 students that have tested positive for COVID-19. The district is reporting 17 students in elementary, eight students in middle school, and two students in high school have tested positive for the coronavirus.

There are 184 students which are required to quarantine due to the coronavirus. The district reports 129 elementary students are currently quarantining, 25 students in middle school, 18 students in high school and 12 students at district-wide facilities.

Cole County reports 31 new coronavirus cases

The Cole County Health Department reported 31 new coronavirus cases from Tuesday.

According to the dashboard update, there are 11,463 residential cases and 286 long-term care facility resident cases. That is 11,749 total cases in the county.

Cole County reported 166 coronavirus deaths since the pandemic began.

Cole County ranks 16h in the state for counties with the most coronavirus cases per 100,000 in the past week. Cases are down 1.9% when comparing last week to the prior week. The county has reported an 8.7% positivity test rate, Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports about 51.4% of the county have initiated their first dose of the vaccine and 47% of the county's population have been fully vaccinated.

The Jefferson City School District reported one new coronavirus case in a student and two new cases in staff members from Tuesday.

The district is reporting five active cases in students and two active cases in staff.

The district is reporting 60 close contacts for students and two close contacts for staff.

Missouri adds more than 1,600 new cases of COVID-19

Missouri reported Wednesday more than 1,600 new cases of COVID-19.

Data from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services showed PCR testing found 1,131 new cases. The state's daily average for the testing method is 799 cases.

Antigen testing discovered another 530 new probable cases of the virus. That's above Missouri's daily average of 261 probable cases for the testing method.

The seven-day positivity rate in Missouri increased Wednesday from 6.9% on Tuesday to 7.1%.

According to DHSS, there were nine new virus-related deaths. Since the start of the pandemic, 12,335 people in Missouri have died from COVID-19 related causes.

Hospitals across the state reported 951 people are being treated for the virus. Data from DHSS showed 107 patients are on ventilators.

The state health department reported patients have received more than 435,000 booster shots.
