Tracking drier conditions for Halloween weekend

TODAY: Chilly and cloudy to start, with more sunshine by the afternoon. Highs reach the upper 50s.

TOMORROW: Dry and seasonal for Halloween with highs in the upper 50s. Expect chilly conditions for trick-or-treating as temperatures sink back to the 40s.

EXTENDED: Cloud cover increases again as we head into the workweek with more rain on the way. Most of Monday will be dry but showers are possible by the evening and this continues through midweek. The biggest chance for rain arrives on Wednesday as low pressure skirts by, and this will keep temperatures nearly 15 degrees below average. Highs are tracking in the upper 40s for much of the week. Clouds will move out by Thursday and this opens the potential for the first frost of the season as lows dip near freezing.

If you live in far northern Missouri, a geomagnetic storm (an ejection of energy from the Sun that disturbs the Earth's magnetic field) might push the Aurora Borealis as far south as your area early Sunday morning. Peak viewing time will be early in the morning before sunrise on Sunday. To maybe get a glimpse of the Northern Lights, try to get away from city lights and look for a faint green glow in the sky to the north.
