Mizzou softball standout to return for extra year of eligibility

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou softball standout Cayla Kessinger plans to return for her extra year of eligibility, according to her father Cory.

"Barring any medical issues, she will be back," He said in a Twitter message Monday night.

Kessinger made it official in a social media post on Tuesday night.

Kessinger just finished up her fifth year with the MU softball team. The Saugus, Calif. native hit .327 with 14 home runs and 34 RBI.

Kessinger will join Brooke Wilmes and Kim Wert as super seniors on next year's squad. It will be her sixth year in a black and gold uniform.

Mizzou's 2021 season came to an end in Super Regionals. The Tigers finished with a record of 42-17.
