Fire officials warn risk of fire is high
Boone County firefighters have battled 26 fires in just four days.
And they said with the high winds expected Wednesday, the risk for an out-of-control fire is only getting worse.
In just four days, two fires have burned barns to the ground. They also spread to the grass and threatened the homes nearby.
A local apartment building a Country Club Apartments also caught fire. Officials still don’t know the cause of that.
Battalion Chief Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Protection District blamed the low moisture and high winds for the increased fire risk.
“We continue to ask residents to be diligent – don’t burn anything until there is more moisture in the ground. These fires spread very quickly,” he said.
