Mizzou’s Laird named SEC freshman of the year
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou freshman phenom Jenna Laird is the SEC freshman of the year. The conference announced its yearly awards on Tuesday, and Mizzou was well represented.
In total - MU had five players named to All-SEC teams. Laird was also named First Team All-SEC. The New York native added an All-SEC freshman team nod as well.
Laird hit .410 during SEC play with seven home runs and 37 RBI. She's just the third MU player to ever win conference freshman of the year - joining Tori Finucane in 2014 and Rhea Taylor in 2008.
Brooke Wilmes and Casidy Chaumont were each named second team All-SEC. Sophomore pitchers Jordan Weber and Emma Nichols made the all-newcomer team. Chaumont and Nichols were also a part of the All-SEC defensive team.
