Art in the Park canceled this summer due to coronavirus

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Art in the Park in-person event is canceled this summer after multiple artists declined to travel this year due to the coronavirus.

Art in the Park was originally scheduled for June 5 and 6 in Stephens Lake Park with 110 local and national artists to attend.

Officials with the event also said the "artists travel from all over the country and with different states opening up at different rates, we have had a hard time finding as many artists that we need to make the festival feel like a true Art in the Park (even a reduced one)."

The event planners are now working to reformat parts of Art in the Park by hosting up to 60 accepted artists on the Art in the Park website to promote them throughout June on social media encouraging people to buy directly from the artists on their websites.

The organization will also host the Veterans & Emerging Art Exhibitions online in virtual exhibitions this summer as well as find a local business to display the work so that the artists can still show off their work. There will be 12 artists featured for each exhibit.
