Mizzou soccer coach Bryan Blitz steps down
COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)
Bryan Blitz, the only coach in Mizzou soccer's history, is stepping down to spend more time with his family, according to Mizzou Athletic Director Jim Sterk.
The program said Blitz informed Mizzou of his decision on Sunday.
"I have run my race, after 25 years it is time for me to step aside and spend more time with my family, including my wife Alie, my children Madison, Connor, Abigail and Oliver, and my mother and father, all of whom have been so supportive of this program," said Blitz said in a press release. "I love everything about Mizzou—three of my four children were born at the MU hospital on campus, five family members are MU system graduates and four work on campus today. We bleed Black & Gold."
The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inductee finished his time with the Tigers with a 254-216-39 record in 25 seasons. His 25 years with MU is the fifth longest coaching tenure in school history.
Under Blitz's watch, Mizzou appeared in seven NCAA tournament appearances, one regular-season Big 12 title, and one Big 12 tournament championship.
He ended his coaching career with a 1-0 win over long-time rival Kansas on Saturday night. Jim Sterk said a national search for his replacement will begin immediately.
