Ashland cited for illegally dumping into creek

Documents retrieved from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources show the city of Ashland has been cited for illegal dumping.

ABC 17 News first reported last week how the city dumped material from street projects, including pipes, wiring and old asphalt, into a tributary near Salinda Drive.

Since last week, city crews have been rushing to clean up the site near Salinda Drive and Broadway.

The DNR confirmed Ashland has been cited for illegal dumping, operating without a land disturbance permit and improper waste disposal.

The report states the improper waste disposal will certainly cause water pollution into a tributary that feeds Jemerson Creek.

All of the old pipes and waste that was one the site was supposed to be taken to a dump and now the city has until Friday to comply with the state’s standards.
