JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City Councilman Ron Fitzwater announced Saturday he plans to run for mayor in 2023.

Fitzwater is the Chief Executive Officer at Missouri Pharmacy Association, and has been a member of the city council for four years.

In a press release, the fourth ward councilman says he wants to lead the council through decisions that impact the full community.

"We have many exciting things going on. But we have some serious challenges as well. I want to help lead those community discussions so that city government is responding to the needs of our entire community," Fitzwater said.

Carrie Tergin is the current mayor of the capital city.

Cole County Commissioner Sam Bushman told ABC17 News he is seeking to keep his seat as presiding commissioner in the 2023 election.
