MoDOT crews to treat roads ahead of snow, ice

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Road crews were getting ready Friday ahead of possible wintry precipitation in the weekend forecast.

Missouri Department of Transportation workers were preparing to treat roads and bridges before the possible wintry mix hits, the agency said in a news release. MoDOT says precipitation will start as early as Saturday and continue into Monday.

"The event has the strong potential to affect morning and evening commutes on Monday," MoDOT said in the news release.

Rain and other precipitation is forecast for Saturday with ice and snow expected Sunday into Monday, the agency said. Road conditions are available by going to the MoDOT traveler information map online.

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has called a Weather Alert Day for Sunday and Monday. Stormtrack meteorologists are expecting 2 to 4 inches of snow with locally heavier amounts, creating slow travel late Sunday and Monday morning.

MoDOT also provides road condition information through its Customer Service Center at 888-ASL-MODOT (275-6636).
