Coronavirus vaccine clinics back on after weather delays; MU Health Care receives shipment

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Coronavirus vaccine shipments were delayed last week but are expected to arrive in time for clinics this week.

MU Health Care canceled its mass vaccination event at Faurot Field last Friday and Saturday. MU Health was supposed to give out 4,000 Moderna doses but shipping problems related to brutal cold and snow delayed those doses.

MU Health Care received confirmation Monday that it will be receiving the vaccines that were delayed. The organization urged people who had postponed appointments to check their email for new appointment dates.

Brad Myers with MU Health Care said the 4,000 doses will be given out at Faurot Field on Thursday and Saturday this week.

Myers said those with appointments have been notified. He said, if they had an appointment at 8 a.m. last Friday, they will now be at 8 a.m. this Thursday. If community members can call their COVID hotline at 573-884-2401 to change their appointment times.

He said they still plan on receiving 4,000 more Moderna doses for the event scheduled for next weekend.

If someone can not make it to their rescheduled appointment this weekend, they will be pushed back to next weekend. A stand-by list will be in place to ensure of no vaccine waste.

Those wishing to sign up for a vaccine can go to MU Health Care's website to fill out the combined survey for MU Health Care, Boone Hospital Center and the Columbia/Boone County health department.

Audrain County will also have a makeup date and a new location to administer second doses of the Pfizer vaccine in Audrain County. Weather postponed the county's event at the Mexico Memorial Airport on Friday.

The new date will be this Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. indoors at the Mexico Area Family YMCA, located at 1127 Adams St. in Mexico.

Audrain County has changed its appointment system for the second-dose clinic, with arrival times based on alphabetical order.

• 8 a.m. arrival – Those with last names beginning with A
• 8:30 a.m. arrival – Those with the last names beginning with B
• 9 a.m. arrival – Those with the last names beginning with C
• 9:30 a.m. arrival – Those with the last names beginning with D
• 10 a.m. arrival – Those with last names beginning with E through F
• 10:30 a.m. arrival – Those with last names beginning with G
• 11 a.m. arrival – Those with last names beginning with H through I
• 11:30 a.m. arrival – Those with last names beginning with J through K
• Noon arrival – Those with last names beginning with L through M
• 12:30 p.m. arrival – Those with last names beginning with N through O
• 1 p.m. arrival – Those with last names beginning with P through Q
• 1:30 p.m. arrival – Those with last names beginning with R through S
• 2 p.m. arrival – Those with last names beginning with T
• 2:30 p.m. arrival – Those with last names beginning with U through V
• 3 p.m. arrival – Those with last names beginning with W through Z

If there are multiple people in a vehicle with different last names, choose one of the last names and show up at the time prescribed.

This clinic is only for those who received their first dose on Jan. 20 at the Mexico Memorial Airport, Jan. 29 at the Audrain County Health Department or at the mini-clinic held at the Presser Arts Center on Feb. 2.

Participants will be asked to present the immunization cards they were given at the first event. Those who misplaced or lost their card, should communicate with staff at the entrance to the clinic on Thursday.

More information on set-up, traffic flow and parking at the Mexico YMCA will be released in the coming days. The Audrain County Health Department is telling residents to monitor the ACHD Facebook page and area media outlets for more information as it becomes available

A vaccine clinic is happening Tuesday in Morgan County. Cole County will host a second-shot clinic Friday. The first doses were given on Feb. 5. 

As of Monday, 1,046,575 doses have been administered in Missouri, including 39,204 in Boone County, according to the state's online coronavirus dashboard. Currently, 11.5% of Missourians have received at least one dose.
