Congressional Democrats have put forward a plan to pay most families with children $3,000 or more per child.

The proposal's fate is unclear but it appears to be gaining steam among some political leaders. But like other stimulus measures, it is part of a broader conversation about how much direct economic stimulus the nation can afford to combat the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
