Early morning residential fires cause thousands in damage
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia firefighters say two early Monday morning residential structure fires caused thousands in damage.
The fire department was dispatched to a two-story house on Rosemary Lane around 2:18 a.m. Crews reported a heavy amount of smoke was coming from the house.
A release from the fire department said the blaze started in an upstairs bedroom. Damage from the fire caused about $50,000 of damage, firefighters said.
Firefighters at the scene said everyone was able to get out of the residence safely.
The fire department received another report of fire five minutes later. It was for an apartment building on Quail Drive.
Crews at the scene said a juvenile was treated for burns. Firefighters said two people were taken to the hospital from the residence. The release said both people were expected to recover.
According to the release, the fire started in an upstairs kitchen inside the apartment building. It caused about $112,000 in damage.
The fire department said investigators are still looking into what caused both fires.
