Boonville inmate charged with attempted rape and violence toward probation officer

BOONVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City man serving time for other crimes is now charged with attempted rape and violence to an employee of the Department of Corrections after an incident on July 1, 2020.

According to court documents, William Riggs went upstairs at the Boonville Correction Center and allegedly attacked a female probation officer.

Riggs is accused of hitting the officer multiple times in the face and head then choking and restraining her with an electrical cord.

Riggs forcefully touched the officer and restrained her from leaving the restroom.

Riggs has a $300,000 cash/surety bond.
