COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Police Department said Thursday afternoon a juvenile connected to a recent homicide at Cosmo Park has been released from custody.

According to the release, investigators no longer believe the 15-year-old had any involvement in the homicide.

The teen had been detained in the Robert L. Perry Juvenile Justice Center since Monday night.

Police say they are continuing to investigate the shooting that killed 19-year-old Jermaine Spain and hurt another.

ABC 17 New spoke with the mother and a family member of the teen who said police had the wrong person.

As of Thursday afternoon, no arrests have been made in the case.

Columbia parks officials say violence in the park is a rare occurence.
