Shooting calls frequent this month in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia has already seen eight shots fired or shots heard calls within the first three days of October, according to dispatch records.

This compared to only 26 calls the entire month of October just last year.

The Columbia Police Department responded to a shots heard call on 9th Street and Elm Street Thursday after witnesses said they heard a single shot, before a sedan pulled up and fired another shot.

Police had two people detained but eventually released them due to lack of evidence.

Crews also arrested and charged a man with being a felon in possession of a firearm after they responded to a report of shots heard near the 3900 block of Buttonwood Drive Friday afternoon.

Evidence markers and crime scene tape could be seen near the Buttonwood Drive scene, however it is still unconfirmed if that arrest was related to the shots heard incident.

Authorities also have yet to make an arrest after a central Columbia shooting investigation. The shooting took place Thursday and police say several shell casings were found in the 400 block of Trinity Place.
