UPDATE 7:30 P.M.:

Columbia Police arrested a man after a report of shots heard near the 3900 block of Buttonwood Dr Friday afternoon.

At approximately 2 p.m., officers were in the area of the incident and a witness flagged them down to report a man carrying a heavy concealed object in his pocket, which the witness thought was a gun.

According to the release, officers observed the individual walking towards McDonald’s.

Officials say once the individual saw the officers, he fled on foot and attempted to hide behind an occupied vehicle.

Officers report seeing the suspect appear to throw an object under the vehicle before he jumped inside the vehicle in an attempt to flee.

Officers say they detained Dajon Gulley, 23, of Columbia, after he resisted arrest. Gulley was transported by officers to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Columbia police arrested Gulley for the charges of felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.

At this time, it is not clear if Gully was directly involved in the shots fired incident.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
