Police: Chase ends after man jumps into lake

OSAGE BEACH, Mo. (KMIZ)

Camden County prosecutors charged a man Friday after he allegedly led police on a chase and jumped in a lake in an attempt to get away.

According to a news release, officers with the Osage Beach Police Department went to Home Depot on Thursday to investigate a report of a stolen truck.

Officers learned that the possible stolen truck was spotted on Highway 42. Police said when they tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver did not stop.

According to the release, the chase went on Osage Beach Parkway, Highway 242, Horseshoe Bend Parkway and Bittersweet Road.

Police tried to use stop sticks three times, but said the driver was able to avoid them. A fourth time was successful, deflating two tires, police said.

The pursuit eventually ended near Shady Gators when the driver got out of the truck, ran toward Lazy Gators and jumped into the lake, according to police.

Officers convinced the driver, who police identified as Terry Dickens, to swim back to shore.

Police said Dickens was examined at a local hospital before officers took him to the Camden County Jail.

Online court records show prosecutors charged Dickens with two counts of tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and driving while revoked.

According to the news release, the Lake Ozark Police Department, Camden County Sheriff's Office and Lake Ozark Fire Protection District helped with the incident.
