Missouri man sentenced to 20 years in prison after investigation led to Iceland

EDITOR'S NOTE: Robinson's sentence is 20 years. He was sentenced to a total of 60 years when all counts are added together, but some of those are being served concurrently.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Missouri man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to more than a dozen charges including rape and sodomy.

Public court records say Jay Paul Robinson, 44, of Blue Springs, will serve up to a third of his sentence after the federal investigation led to Iceland.

Robinson is accused of setting up a hidden camera inside a bathroom at a Columbia public library in 2018. He was charged with a count each of rape and sodomy and a dozen counts of invasion of privacy.

Boone County Presiding Circuit Court Judge Kevin Crane sentenced Robinson to 12 years in prison on the rape and sodomy charges, as well as, four years for each of the invasion of privacy charges on May 29.

Robinson received credit for time served. He's been held without bond in the Boone County Jail since April 2019.

Court documents said a boy found the camera and reported it to library staff in August of 2018. Police arrested Robinson at the library after he returned later that day.

Investigators found several videos of hidden camera footage after a search of Robinson's house, police said. Police also allegedly found videos of Robinson raping someone.

According to federal authorities, Robinson flew to Iceland from Chicago to avoid prosecution. Authorities extradited him to Boone County after being arrested in Cook County, Illinois.

It's unclear what charges Robinson was arrested on and when he was taken into custody in Illinois.
