Man charged with February shooting on Redwood Road arrested Thursday
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia police officers arrested a man accused of a shooting on Redwood Road that sent at least one person to the hospital.
Boone County Jail records show 39-year-old James Hanton was booked into the jail Thursday afternoon.
Court documents say Hanton and two others were involved in a fight at a residence in the 100 block of Redwood Road on Feb. 19.
Hanton's probable cause statement said he shot at a man who lived at the residence after he and another man began fighting.
Police said a large amount of blood and a shell casing were found at the residence. Hanton's probable cause statement said the shooting victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.
The police department said in February that two people were taken to separate hospitals after a shooting in the 100 block of Redwood Road. The news release said one of the people taken to the hospital suffered life-threatening injuries.
Prosecutors charged Hanton with one count each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
Hanton pleaded guilty to a reduced charge for a 2017 shooting that happened on Demaret Drive. He was sentenced to five years of supervised probation.
