Tracking a cool, rainy forecast before extreme heat takes over

TODAY: I'm tracking clouds persisting throughout most of the afternoon, leading to a slightly cooler-than-expected forecast. Temperatures are expected to get into the upper 70s as winds blow out of the northeast at 5-10 mph. Light showers could move into the area by the later afternoon and early evening hours, but most will remain dry.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking cooler weather persisting as temperatures drop into the mid-60s by the end of the night. Increasing shower and storm chances that are more widespread will be expected, especially after midnight.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking scattered showers and storms becoming a bit more widespread throughout most of Friday morning. Due to higher amounts of moisture present across the area, locally heavier downpours and localized flooding could be possible. This will keep temperatures in the 70s throughout the afternoon hours. This activity will remain for the majority of the day, slowly exiting south of I-70 overnight into Saturday morning. Throughout Saturday, drier weather will return, and with it, temperatures are expected to quickly warm back up, as by the afternoon hours, upper 80s can be expected. This is due to southerly winds returning, bringing heat and humidity with them. By Sunday, the effects will be fully realized, with sunshine helping temperatures get into the low 90s by the afternoon hours, but humidity will be making it feel like it is closer to 105. Monday will be the most likely day to near or exceed feels-like temperatures of 105 degrees, which is why an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will be in effect for both Sunday and Monday. Hot, dry weather will continue into Tuesday and Wednesday, but it is less likely that the same intense heat will be observed.
