Strong storms roll through Clinton, damage reported to school buildings

COLUMBIA, Mo.

Officials in Clinton reported damage to several buildings Wednesday night after storms moved through the area.

Henry County Sheriff Aaron Brown told ABC 17 News that a tornado appeared to have touched down in Clinton near Calvird Drive between 2nd Street and Highway 13. Henry County is located in the western part of the state.

Crews reported downed trees in several areas, and a building at American Building Products on 2nd Street was destroyed. No injuries have been reported.

Clinton School District spokeswoman Angie Lawson told ABC 17 News in an email that some buildings in the district had roof damage. A news release from the Clinton Fire Department specified that the elementary and intermediate school buildings were damaged. Clinton students will have an AMI day on Thursday.

The fire department also confirmed two fuel tanks at Champion Brands blew over, but both were empty and no fuel leaked out.
