Mizzou softball goes 1-4 in Cajun Clash with run-rule loss to Louisiana in finale
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KMIZ)
Mizzou softball's weekend at the Cajun AC Louisiana Clash in Lake Charles, Louisiana did not go quite as the team would have hoped. The Tigers left the tournament with a 1-4 mark, falling to Louisiana, Houston and McNeese over the course of three days.
Overall, the weekend dropped head coach Larissa Anderson and her team to 5-11 to start the 2026 campaign. Notably, through the first 16 games, Mizzou is 2-4 against mid-major competition.
The Tigers' fourth loss of the tournament came in run-rule fashion, on Sunday afternoon, in a 9-1 loss to Louisiana in six innings.
Coach Anderson's team jumped out with a one-run lead, thanks to a two-out RBI double off the bat of Rock Bridge alum Abby Hay. However, the inning ended as Hay collided with Louisiana's shortstop, resulting in an injury to the junior first baseman. She did need assistance getting off the field, but there has been no updates on her status, yet.
As a result of Hay's injury, Mizzou was forced to shift around its lineup, including the starting pitcher.
Originally, senior Cierra Harrison was primed to start against Louisiana, but after some shakeups, true freshman pitcher Abby Carr got her second-ever start in the circle.
Through 3.2 innings of action, Carr allowed four runs on seven hits, along with two strikeouts. She was received by junior Nathalie Touchet, who tossed for 1.2 innings, along two runs on three hits. Once Touchet exited the circle, the Tigers went on to allow three more runs.
Up next - Mizzou softball will make its home debut. The Tigers will host the annual Mizzou Invitational, beginning on Friday, Feb. 27 at 10 a.m. and going through Sunday, March 1. Coach Anderson and her squad will host Wichita State, Miami (Ohio) and Drake.
