Tracking dangerously cold weather before a noticeable warmup

TODAY: I'm tracking sub-zero wind chills areawide this morning, with the coldest weather expected along and north of I-70 as it could feel like -10 to -15 degrees. This is why an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is in effect through this morning. To read more about this event, visit our blog: https://abc17news.com/news/weather-alert-day/2025/12/10/weather-alert-day-dangerously-cold-temperatures-late-saturday-night-into-sunday/. Plenty of sunshine is expected throughout the day, leading to actual air temperatures warming into the upper teens by the afternoon hours and wind chills getting above zero degrees. Winds will be out of the north at 8-12 mph with gusts up to 15 mph.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking temperatures cooling off into the low teens through the overnight hours. A mostly clear sky is expected with winds shifting into the south at 5-10 mph.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking much warmer weather to start the week as breezy southerly winds take over the area. By Monday afternoon, temperatures will warm into the low 40s, and by Tuesday, high temperatures will be in the low 50s. Sunshine can be expected for both of these days before cloud cover makes a return on Wednesday. Wednesday and Thursday will still be warmer than the current weather, but rain will be entering the forecast during this period of time.
