RECAP: Mizzou’s ground game gashes Louisiana to maintain perfect record

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou Football will carry a flawless record into its SEC opener.

The Tigers protected their home turf against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday, behind a rushing attack that tallied 427 yards, including 421 yards from their running back room alone. It's the most rushing yards that Mizzou has registered in a single game since the 2017 season.

"Those guys run hard. They run behind their pads. They make it easy to block for," Mizzou offensive lineman Connor Tollison said. "Those guys love football so much, honestly."

Despite clinching a 3-0 record for a third straight season, MU has confidence that its best performances are still ahead of them.

"We're 3-0. I think there's always room for improvement. Obviously, we had the close call right there with Marquis extending the ball at the goal line, which we don't do. It's something we don't do. Obviously, we had the big run, had the interception, had some leak yardage on kickoff coverage. We had a busted protection in our punt, so there's plenty of stuff to work on and get better," head coach Eli Drinkwitz said. "I liked their mentality going into the game. I think there's been plenty of teams around the country that go into these type of games, and it's a lot tougher than they want it to be. Our guys made sure it wasn't."
