Mizzou football set for final practices of fall camp, as the page turns to game one

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou football team has officially reached the final chapter of fall camp, as just two practices remain. Once preseason work is in the books, head coach Eli Drinkwitz and company will turn the page to the season opener against Central Arkansas.

During the final week of fall camp, media members will get to observe the last pair of practices, while getting to know the nine players that were voted team captains better. You can find a full list of the Tigers' captains below.

  • Quarterback Beau Pribula
  • Quarterback Sam Horn
  • Offensive lineman Cayden Green
  • Offensive lineman Connor Tollison
  • Defensive end Zion Young
  • Safety Daylan Carnell
  • Safety Jalen Catalon
  • Linebacker Khalil Jacobs
  • Wide receiver Logan Muckey (special teams captain)

"A lot of guys uh voted captain, nine. I've never had that many, but it's one of those things that I knew this class had strong leadership," Drinkwitz said.

Mizzou has its leadership all figured out for the 2025 season, but the battle to become starting quarterback is still raging on. Coach Drinkwitz has not shied away from taking the competition into the first game of the season, if necessary.

Following Saturday's road practice at Lindenwood University, the leader of the Tigers said both guys are pretty even statistically speaking, but he needs to see some separation in the leadership department.

"For me, it's about being a transformational leader, at this point, and who's going to lean into the team and really get the most out of those guys," Drinkwitz said. "They're gonna kinda have to separate themselves from the quarterback battle and really get the most out of the guys they're playing with."

Coach Eli did take some time to hush the questions about his offensive line. Mizzou tinkered with the front five a bit in the back half of camp, notably moving left guard Cayden Green over to left tackle. However, Drinkwitz said that's not a sign of his staff 'pulling the rip-cord.'

"All the worry about oh man, we're moving guys. That's ridiculous. Don't worry about it, I promise you we know what we're doing with that. We'll be just fine." he said.
