Mizzou run-rules Southern to close out Andre Dawson Classic

VERO BEACH, Fla. (KMIZ)
Mizzou Baseball has captured two wins in three games at the Andre Dawson Classic.
The Tigers (3-4) rode a 10-run inning to a 15-3 win over Southern (3-4) to end their seven-game, season-opening road trip.
MU posted 15 unanswered runs before the Jaguars added their first run to the scoreboard, highlighted by an offensive explosion in the eighth frame. Head Coach Kerrick Jackson's group recorded 15 plate appearances in that inning, which featured a two-home run and two-RBI double from Brady Picarelli, a three-RBI double from Trey Callaway and an RBI double from Mateo Serna.
Southern tallied three runs off Ben Smith in the bottom half of that frame, but it was not enough to escape a run-rule loss.
Serna and Cayden Nicoletto propelled Mizzou's 14-hit effort, finishing the game with three hits, one double and one RBI each. Picarelli and Brock Daniels also had multi-hit performances, including four RBI's and two RBI's respectively.
Collectively, the Tigers posted a season-low eight strikeouts and forced seven walks at the plate in Sunday morning's win.
Kadden Drew earned the win on the mound with his six shutout innings, allowing just five hits and recording three strikeouts. James Vaughn also tossed a clean seventh frame in relief, striking out two of three batters.
Up next - The Tigers host Lindenwood on Tuesday, Feb. 25 for their home opener at Taylor Stadium. First pitch of MU's eight-game homestand is scheduled for 4 p.m.
