Mizzou standout earns SEC Player of the Week honors
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
For the first time in his collegiate career, Mizzou guard Caleb Grill was honored with a weekly conference accolade, following two big outing in wins against No. 5 Florida and Arkansas.
Grill averaged 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists per game, shooting about 66 percent from the field and 60 percent from 3-point range over the course of two games.
The graduate student opened up the week with a red hot hand in Mizzou's big upset over No. 5 Florida down in Gainesville. It felt like Grill could not miss in his team's second Top-5 upset of the 2024-25 campaign. In that win, he tallied 22 points and went 6-for-10 from 3-point range. It was the third game this season that Grill has made at least six triples, which makes him the first Tiger to do that since Kassius Robertson in the 2017-18 season.
Grill then followed that performance up with a 17-point outing in the Tigers' trouncing of the Arkansas Razorbacks, on Saturday. He also scored his 1,000th career point in that victory.
Overall, in his final collegiate season, the Kansas-native leads Mizzou with 37 made 3-pointers, shooting a clip of 49.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Needless to say, after being injured most of last season, Grill has played a major role in MU's best start to SEC action since joining the conference in the 2012-13 campaign.
Up next - Grill and the Tigers will hit the road to face Texas on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m.
