Tracking storm chances and cooler temperatures for the week ahead

TODAY: I'm tracking scattered showers and storms moving out of Mid-Missouri throughout the rest of the morning hours as temperatures begin in the mid-to-upper 70s. By the afternoon hours, temperatures are expected to get into the upper 80s as winds shift to the north at 8-12 mph, but humidity will still be making it feel like the triple digits for some. This is why an extreme heat warning is still in effect, but confidence is low that truly extreme heat index values will be observed. Another round of isolated to scattered storms will be possible during the mid to late afternoon hours.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking chances of showers and storms continuing throughout the evening and overnight hours as temperatures drop into the upper 60s thanks to a cold front. Winds will continue to blow out of the north at 5-10 mph.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking sunshine making a return by Monday afternoon, but luckily, cooler weather is expected with this. Temperatures will only get into the low 80s by the afternoon hours, and although it'll be warmer Tuesday, with temperatures in the upper 80s, the warm-up won't last long. By Wednesday and Thursday, more chances of showers and storms will enter the area, keeping temperatures from getting past the mid-80s. By the end of the week, drier weather returns, and cooler-than-average temperatures in the low 80s will continue.
