The Missouri State Highway Patrol has reported one fatality has occurred on state roads over the weekend as inclement weather hit Missouri.

Snow fell across the state over the weekend and Monday morning, causing the ABC 17 News Stormtrack Weather Team to issue a Weather Alert Day. MSHP wrote on its social media that from noon Saturday through 3 p.m. Monday, there have been 3,134 calls for service, 1,788 stranded motorists, 436 crashes and 38 injuries.

According to an MSHP crash report, the fatality occurred Sunday afternoon in Jackson County on Ashland Avenue, north of 20th Street.

The report states that a dump truck driver – a 37-year-old man from Blue Springs – stopped let the passenger – a 61-year-old man from Independence -- out of the vehicle. The dump truck began to slide on the roadway and hit the man and another parked vehicle, according to the report.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the report says. The driver suffered minor injuries and was brought to Centerpoint Hospital by ambulance, according to the report.

The dump truck had extensive damage, while the other vehicle – a 2005 Honda CRV – had minor damage, the report says.
