Tracking rumbles of thunder today, stronger storms possible tomorrow
TODAY: Showers and rumbles of thunder continue through the morning with limited breaks during the afternoon. Temperatures will warm to 70 degrees with steady southerly winds bringing good warmth and energy for storms. Heavy rain and storms return tonight several hours after sundown.
TOMORROW: Storms will be on the way out Monday morning with isolated activity expected most of the day. Temperatures warm even further into the low 70s, more energy for storms in the evening. A line of strong to severe storms will first track into our western counties as early as 3 p.m. then impact central MO around 6 p.m. and finally exit to the east before midnight. Strong to severe storms could produce high winds up to 60 mph and a possible tornado with the highest risk south of I-70. Flooding will be a low concern Monday night after several rounds of storms.
EXTENDED: Rainfall through Monday amounts to 3 to 4", with even higher totals from the heaviest storms. Storms and rain will be slow to clear on Tuesday, Election Day, with drizzle likely lingering through the afternoon. Temperatures from Tuesday onward are much more seasonal with highs back around 60 degrees. Midweek will see some brief dry time on Wednesday and parts of Thursday before more rain chances next weekend.
