BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The victim of a shooting in Boone County was in critical condition on Wednesday after he was shot multiple times in the 15400 block of north Old Highway 63, according to authorities.

Boone County Sheriff's deputies and the Columbia Police Department responded to the scene and found the victim with gunshot wounds.

Authorities detained one person who was originally believed to have been the one to shoot the victim. However, that person was released from custody, said Sgt. Brian Leer.

Leer said several people were armed at an arranged meeting at the location on Old Highway 63 when the situation escalated.

"Unless significant developments occur, there will be no further information released regarding this incident until the investigation is complete," Leer wrote in a news release.

Deputies did not release the identity of the victim.
