Northeast Columbia crash is an ‘active homicide investigation’ after teenager dies
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
An unknown number of suspects are at large and to be considered a threat to the public after a crash occurred in northeast Columbia Thursday morning.
The Columbia Police Department said officers were sent to the 1900 block of Boyd Lane a little after 8 a.m. They found a vehicle that crashed into a woodline one street over on Fair Lane but no evidence of shots fired. Police wrote in a release that they responded to a shots-heard call and also referred to it as a shots-fired call.
CPD wrote in a Thursday evening press release that an unconscious man was found at the scene. The release says Traquan Reed, 18, was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The press release did not describe the nature of Reed's injuries.
"This incident is now an active homicide investigation. At this time there are still outstanding suspects," the release says.
A neighbor sent videos to ABC 17 News that appeared to show two young men with their faces covered carrying guns in the area at about 8 a.m. CPD could not confirm if the two men shown on the video are suspects.
An ABC 17 News reporter who got to the scene after the crash saw about five police cruisers and CPD's crime scene investigation van. One person was taken into police custody and another left the scene in an ambulance.
Police were using a drone late Thursday morning to look over the area.
CPD did not provide more details, citing the ongoing investigation.
