A Kirksville man who pleaded guilty in connection to a deadly shooting in Columbia in 2022 is set to be sentenced at the Boone County Courthouse at 1 p.m. Friday.

Joshua Dudley, 24, was involved in the shooting death of Shavez Waage at the Moser's parking lot on Keen Street in 2022. Dudley was originally charged with second-degree murder but that charge was downgraded when he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and first-degree attempted robbery.

Investigators used surveillance video to track down the vehicle Dudley and Loyal Martell, 23, were in. Court documents say Dudley and Martell met Waage in the Moser's parking lot with plans of robbing him, Dudley told police that Martell was the shooter.

Martell pleaded guilty to second-degree murder back in 2022 and in exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped three felony charges. Martell was sentenced to 20 years in prison in August.
