COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Tuesday marked the one-year anniversary since two teenagers were killed, and four others were injured in a shooting at a vacant Boone County house.

On June 4, 2023, Boone County deputies responded to the 2600 block of Oakbrook Drive. It was determined that a party was being held and multiple people were in attendance before shots were fired, killing the two teens.

More than a year later, no one has been charged or arrested for either teen's death.

Kenny Tyrone Jackson Jr., 18, was charged in March in relation to the case. He was charged with tampering with evidence. A hearing was held on Monday. He was ordered to appear in court for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27.

Capt. Brian Leer, of the Boone County Sheriff's Office, said in a statement Saturday via text message to ABC News that the department is still struggling to get people to come forward with information.

"The Oakbrook investigation id ongoing and active, however we have no new information to release," the statement reads. "Our investigators continue to interview people as it progresses. Unfortunately, we are. still not getting many people to come forward with information related to this case and encourage those who may have any information to contact us."

Michael Midgyett is the father of one of the teenagers who was killed at the party.

Midgyett said his son, Deqrian Kyrell Jacobs, attended the party with a group of friends, when Jacob's friends, and another group began to argue. Midgyett said his son attempted to fight someone, but was not carrying a gun. Shortly into the fight, Midgyett said people in both groups began to shoot at each other, killing his son in the process.

Jacobs was only 16-years-old.

"He was a good kid, really good kid... liked basketball he's like real funny, liked girls he was a real good kid, wasn't no violent kid," Midgyett said.

Midgyett said he received a flyer promoting the party that was thrown the night of the killings, inviting people to come to the vacant home. Midgyett said he's shown the flyer to investigators, asking them to arrest the people who threw the party.

Midgyett said he's been frustrated with the situation. He said he understands why someone hasn't been arrested for killing his son, because he knows the people at the party wont come forward.

However, he said he feels those responsible for throwing the party that night should still be held accountable.

"Basically (we) aren't getting no where with no solid type of information and none of these kids want to come forward and say what they saw because I know they saw something," Midgyett said. "As a father, all of that means a lot to me because without them having that party my son would be alive."
