Two crashes block part of Highway 54 in Cole County

BRAZITO, Mo. (KMIZ)

Consecutive crashes blocked westbound Highway 54 near Route E in Cole County on Monday, resulting in two injuries.

The crashes happened just after 3 p.m. in Brazito, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports.

The first happened when a 17-year-old driver from Eldon skidded off the road and hit a group of trees with his bumper, the patrol reports. The driver had minor injuries.

About a minute later in the same area, a tractor-trailer driven by Iurii Barskyi, 34, of Hamtramck, Michigan, went around a curve too fast and hydroplaned, according to a patrol report. The truck went off the road and hit a tree.

Barskyi was taken by ambulance to Capital Region Medical Center.
