Tuesday marks last day candidates can file for the August primary
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Candidates planning to run for office in the August primary have until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday to file for office.
The U.S. Senate, governor, and state legislature are just a few of the offices up for grabs in the August 6th election.
Candidate filing for the August primary in Missouri opened on Feb. 27 and will close on Tuesday. The primary election is Aug. 6, followed by the general election on Nov. 5.
Several state offices including a U.S. Senate seat and Governor are up for election.
Elections that candidates must file with the Secretary of State's Office this year:
- U.S. Senate
- Eight U.S. Representatives
- Governor
- Lieutenant Governor
- Secretary of State
- Attorney General
- State Treasurer
- 17 State Senators – odd-numbered districts
- 163 State Representatives
- Various Circuit Court Judges*
*Associate Circuit Court judges file with the local election authority.
The race for governor is drawing attention as Gov. Mike Parson will not seek reelection due to term limits. Current Lieutenant Governor, Mike Kehoe, along with the Secretary of State, Jay Ashcroft, are two of the current candidates who hold office at the state level. This means their seats will also be up for election this August.

- Mike Hamra
Libertarian
- Bill Slantz

Several other notable races will affect Mid-Missourians, including lieutenant governor and secretary of state. Columbia Rep. Doug Mann's 50th District House seat will be up for grabs after he announced that he will not seek reelection, citing mental health concerns.
