Some Grayson Cottages residents still without heat and water

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Some Grayson Cottages residents were still without heat or water Wednesday, having already spent five days without those services in extremely cold weather.

Residents detailed the problems to ABC 17 News on Monday after being without power and water since Friday.

The Cardinal Group, which manages the apartments, says it has provided residents with accommodations at hotels at no cost, potable water and portable heaters.

Grayson Cottages is an apartment complex that houses several University of Missouri students. Resident Hailey Ray and her roommates told ABC 17 News on Monday that they were not able to shower, brush their teeth or do the dishes and that they have been maintaining a 40-degree temperature in the apartment.

One of the roommates, Jesslyn Knowles said that as of Tuesday, their heat is restored and their water was expected to be back on soon along with the complex reimbursing their Airbnb. However, issues remain for other residents.

ABC 17 News received emails from Grayson Cottages residents Wednesday still voicing their concerns. One resident said their water was restored but it is cold, there is still no heat, and their electrical circuits have been blown after maintenance plugged in space heaters. They said they have not heard from Grayson Cottages regarding reimbursements.

Several pipe bursts occurred throughout Columbia this week.

Battle High School was evacuated after a pipe broke and triggered an alarm. That alarm was a port of the fire suppression system in the upstairs common area. Other area impacted by pipe burst included the NextGen building and the Macher Swim School, which was forced to close for the day. A pipe burst was also reported at the Columbia Public Schools Administration Building on Monday, and the Mexico School District in Audrain County experienced bursts, as well.
