Columbia man accused of domestic assault, knocking victim unconscious

A Columbia man was charged with first-degree domestic assault after he allegedly knocked out a victim at an apartment on Saturday.

Ricky Hendren, 55, is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. An initial court appearance was set for Tuesday.

According to the probable cause statement, police went to the apartment at 7:14 p.m. Saturday after a neighbor reported hearing a fight.

Police arrived and Hendren let them into the apartment, where the victim was seen was unconscious on the floor with a swollen face and bleeding from one of their ears, according to the probable cause statement. Police asked Hendren why the unconscious victim was bleeding and Hendren allegedly said they were not bleeding and denied assaulting them, the statement says.

Hendren was then arrested. EMTs arrived and determined the victim needed to be brought to a hospital for treatment, the statement says. Hendren later claimed the victim was injured from falling, the statement says.

Police interviewed the initial caller, who allegedly said they heard someone yelling “don’t touch me,” which was followed by a “boom,” that sounded like someone hitting the floor, according to the statement. The caller then told police they heard a man call the victim a racial slur, the statement says.
