A Mid-Missouri man was charged on Wednesday with possessing child pornography.

Kelvin Maurice Powell Jr., 34, is being held without bond at the Boone County Jail. He was first booked into the Callaway County Jail at 5:26 p.m. Wednesday, and was brought to the Boone County Jail at 10:27 a.m. Thursday, according to online jail records. His address is listed as Columbia on Casenet, but is listed as Mokane in online jail records.

A court date for Powell is not listed on Casenet, but jail records indicate he has a court appearance set for 1 p.m. Monday at the Boone County Courthouse.

According to the probable cause statement, Powell was accused of having child porn on Aug. 18. The statement says a warrant was granted in reference to a case involving David Nacarato, who was charged in August with five counts of first-degree child molestation, three counts of statutory rape, first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, two counts of statutory sodomy of a victim and possession of child pornography.

Powell allegedly admitted to having a phone that was found at a residence and provided law enforcement with the password, according to the statement.

On Monday, Columbia police received information from the Boone County Cyber Crimes Task Force stating that files were being reviewed in relation to Nacarato’s case. Law enforcement used an artificial intelligence detection software and allegedly found at least five videos that included child pornography on Powell’s phone, according to the probable cause statement.

Nacarato, 39, of Columbia, has been held without bond at the Boone County Jail since August. His next court date is set for 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, according to online jail records.
