Jefferson City man sentenced seven years for 2019 stabbing case
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Jefferson City man was sentenced on Tuesday to seven years in prison after he stabbed a woman in 2019.
According to online court records, Hosea Gaines pleaded guilty on July 21 to second-degree domestic assault and a misdemeanor count for resisting arrest. He was sentenced to spend seven years at the Missouri Department of Corrections.
He was previously charged with second-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and resisting arrest.Â
According to previous reporting, Jefferson City police said Gaines stabbed a woman several times with a knife. She provided police with his name and car description during an interview.
Police said Gaines led officers on a pursuit after he didn't pull over for a traffic stop. Officers deflated three of the vehicle's tires before Gaines crashed and then ran on foot.
In another case, Gaines was charged with nine felonies after he was accused of breaking into an apartment and tried to threaten a woman with a knife. He was charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree domestic assault, first-degree harassment, three counts of armed-criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree stalking and stealing.
A plea hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the Cole County Circuit Court.
He also pleaded guilty earlier this year to first-degree stalking and violating an order of protection. The four-year sentence will run concurrently with his domestic assault and resisting arrest charges.
